Ashtakuta Milan (also called Guna Milan) is the classical Vedic astrology system for evaluating marriage compatibility between two individuals. The method compares the Moon nakshatras (lunar mansions) of the prospective woman and man across eight categories (Kuta) — Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi — and assigns a score out of 36 points.

Each Kuta measures a different dimension of compatibility: mental temperament (Varna), mutual control (Vashya), birth-star harmony (Tara), sexual compatibility (Yoni), planetary friendship (Graha Maitri), temperament match (Gana), Moon-sign pair compatibility (Bhakoot) and genetic health (Nadi). A higher total score suggests better natural compatibility; scores above 18 are traditionally considered acceptable, scores above 24 are good, and scores above 30 are excellent.
