Muhurta is the ancient Vedic art of selecting the most auspicious — or identifying the most inauspicious — moment for an action or event, by reading the energies of the sky at that exact instant.

Vehicle purchase muhurta identifies the most auspicious moment to buy, register or take first possession of a car, motorcycle, truck or any motorized vehicle. Classical Vedic texts classify vehicles as movable property and associate them with the 4th house (personal transport) and the 9th house (long journeys). Pushya nakshatra is highly favored for vehicle purchases; Rohini, Hasta, Swati and Shravana also carry strong scores. The scoring engine evaluates tithi, nakshatra, vara and lagna strength, with additional weight on Venus (aesthetics, comfort and vehicles in modern Jyotish) and the condition of the 4th house lord.

For vehicle purchase muhurta, Rahu Kaal and Yamaganda are always excluded. Dur Muhurta and Varjyam are flagged as soft warnings. A debilitated or combust Venus significantly lowers the window score. Kartari Yoga on Lagna and Gandanta Moon are further blockers. Bhadra (Vishti Karana) — a particularly inauspicious half-tithi period — is traditionally avoided for all new purchases including vehicles. Waning Moon tithis and Rikta tithis (4th, 9th, 14th) are generally avoided; Sunday and Saturday are considered less favorable varas for vehicle purchases in classical muhurta texts.
