Muhurta is the ancient Vedic art of selecting the most auspicious — or identifying the most inauspicious — moment for an action or event, by reading the energies of the sky at that exact instant.

Marriage muhurta selects a wedding window using panchang factors such as tithi, nakshatra, vara and lagna strength, together with personal Tara Bala when birth nakshatra is known. Auspicious nakshatras for marriage — such as Rohini, Mrigashira, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati and Uttara Ashadha — carry higher weight, while malefic nakshatras lower the window score automatically.

For marriage muhurta, certain periods and planetary conditions act as hard blockers: Rahu Kaal and Yamaganda (inauspicious 90-minute daily segments) are always excluded. Dur Muhurta (weekday-based inauspicious sub-periods) and Varjyam (nakshatra-derived inauspicious window) are also flagged. Additional blockers include Gandanta (Moon at the junction of water and fire signs), Kartari Yoga on Lagna (malefics hemming the ascendant), and Jupiter or Venus being combust or debilitated — both are natural significators of marriage and must be well-placed.
