Muhurta is the ancient Vedic art of selecting the most auspicious — or identifying the most inauspicious — moment for an action or event, by reading the energies of the sky at that exact instant.

Financial document muhurta (Lekha Muhurta) identifies the most auspicious moment to sign loans, contracts, title deeds or official registrations. Classical Vedic texts associate written agreements with Mercury (communication and documents) and Jupiter (law and fairness). Wednesday (Mercury day) and Thursday (Jupiter day) carry strong vara scores; Hasta, Pushya, Rohini and Revati are among the favored nakshatras for signing. The scoring engine evaluates tithi, nakshatra, vara and lagna strength, with additional weight on Mercury's house position and the condition of the 2nd and 11th house lords.

For financial document muhurta, Rahu Kaal and Yamaganda are always excluded as hard blockers. Dur Muhurta and Varjyam are flagged as soft warnings. A debilitated or combust Mercury significantly lowers the window score. Kartari Yoga on Lagna, Ashtama Lagna (8th house rising) and Gandanta Moon are further blockers. Tuesday and Saturday are generally considered less favorable varas for signing in classical muhurta texts; Rikta tithis (4th, 9th, 14th) and Amavasya are traditionally avoided for binding financial commitments.
