Muhurta is the ancient Vedic art of selecting the most auspicious — or identifying the most inauspicious — moment for an action or event, by reading the energies of the sky at that exact instant.

Griha Pravesh (house warming or first entry into a new home) muhurta evaluates the lunar month (masa), tithi, nakshatra, vara and lagna strength at the property location. Pushya, Rohini, Mrigashira, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha and Uttara Bhadrapada are among the most favored nakshatras for entering a new home, as they bring stability, prosperity and auspicious energy to the household.

For Griha Pravesh muhurta, Rahu Kaal and Yamaganda are always excluded as hard blockers. Dur Muhurta and Varjyam are flagged as warnings. Additional blockers include the inauspicious lunar months (Adhika Masa), Kartari Yoga on Lagna (malefics flanking the ascendant), a debilitated or combust Jupiter (natural significator of home and family prosperity), and Gandanta (Moon at the water-fire sign junction). Traditionally, Griha Pravesh is also avoided during Dakshinayana (Sun's southward transit) unless other panchang factors are exceptionally strong.
