Muhurta is the ancient Vedic art of selecting the most auspicious — or identifying the most inauspicious — moment for an action or event, by reading the energies of the sky at that exact instant.
Worship muhurta — widely searched as Brahma Muhurta — selects a sacred moment to begin spiritual practice, prayer, a vow (vrata), puja or ritual observance. The scoring engine weighs tithi, nakshatra, vara and lagna strength, with emphasis on Jupiter (the natural significator of devotion, dharma and ritual) and a calm, sattvic configuration. Gentle, benefic nakshatras are favoured — Pushya, Rohini, Hasta, Uttara Phalguni, Anuradha, Shravana and Revati support sincere, fruitful worship, and certain tithis such as Ekadashi and Purnima carry special devotional weight.
For worship muhurta, Rahu Kaal and Yamaganda are always excluded as hard blockers, and Dur Muhurta and Varjyam are flagged as warnings. A debilitated or combust Jupiter (significator of worship and dharma), Kartari Yoga on Lagna and Gandanta Moon lower the window score. While many daily practices can begin at any time, formal vows and rituals avoid Bhadra (Vishti karana) and Rikta tithis; a waxing Moon (Shukla Paksha), Ekadashi, Purnima and a strong, sattvic lagna best support spiritual observances — and Brahma Muhurta, the interval roughly 96–48 minutes before sunrise, remains the classical peak for prayer and meditation.
