Engagement (nisan) muhurta follows the same panchang scoring engine as marriage but with weights tuned for commitment ceremonies rather than the full wedding ritual. The Moon's nakshatra, tithi, vara and lagna strength are all evaluated; auspicious nakshatras for engagements include Rohini, Mrigashira, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha and Uttara Phalguni — nakshatras that support lasting bonds and mutual harmony.

For engagement muhurta, the primary blockers are Rahu Kaal and Yamaganda, which are always excluded from auspicious windows. Dur Muhurta and Varjyam are flagged as soft warnings. Additional blockers include Kartari Yoga on Lagna (malefics hemming the ascendant), a debilitated or combust Venus (natural significator of relationships and commitment), and Moon transiting Gandanta (a vulnerable junction between water and fire signs). A waxing Moon (Shukla Paksha) and strong Jupiter further strengthen the engagement muhurta.
